Our standards

Every Infotero article aims to be accurate, clear, original and genuinely useful to the person who searched for it. If an article can't meet those standards, it isn't published.

How we choose topics

We look at what people are searching for and asking about, then choose questions we can answer well with reliable sources. We favour lasting explainers ("what is", "how to", "why") over breaking news. We avoid topics where we can't add real value, and we don't cover subjects that are sensational, shocking or harmful.

How articles are researched

• Each topic is researched across several independent sources. We prefer official organisations, government and academic sources, primary documents and established publications.
• If we can't find at least three reputable sources, we don't publish the article.
• Facts, figures, dates and quotes are recorded together with the source they came from.

How we use AI

We're open about this: Infotero uses AI tools to help research topics, organise facts and draft articles. AI tools can make mistakes, so they never have the final say. Every article goes through these checks before publication:

1. Fact check. Every factual claim is compared against the collected sources. Claims that can't be supported are removed.
2. Originality check. Articles are written in our own words and checked to ensure no source text has been copied.
3. Safety and policy check. Articles must not give personal medical, legal or financial advice or contain harmful, misleading or defamatory content.
4. Quality review. Articles are scored for helpfulness, clarity, accuracy, originality and structure, and anything below our threshold is sent back or discarded.
5. Editorial approval. Articles are reviewed by the editor before they go live.

Sources and citations

Numbered markers in an article link to its sources, which are listed in full at the end. You can check any claim yourself. Linking to a source doesn't mean we endorse everything it says.

Health, money and legal topics

Articles in these areas are general explanations for educational purposes. They are not advice for your personal situation. See our disclaimer.

Updates

We review articles regularly and update them when facts change. The "Updated" date at the top of an article shows when it was last meaningfully revised. We don't change dates without changing the content.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and openly. Significant corrections are noted in the article and listed on our corrections page. To report an error, use our contact form and choose "Correction".

Independence and advertising

Infotero is supported by advertising. Advertisers have no influence over what we write, and ads are always clearly labelled as "Advertisement". We don't accept payment for editorial coverage.
